Is paper packaging always better than plastic?

Is paper packaging always better than plastic?

Not always. For hygiene products like tissues, packaging has animportant job: it must keep the product clean, dry, and protected allthe way from the factory to your home. If packaging fails, products canbe damaged and wasted — which is worse for the environment.

While paper reduces plastic use, it’s not automatically the greenerchoice. Thick or coated paper can actually create more CO₂emissions than lightweight plastic when you look at the full life cycle.Paper packaging often still needs coatings or glue to make it strong ormoisture‑resistant, meaning it isn’t always plastic‑free.

At Essity, we focus on choosing the most sustainable option for eachproduct.
