Product use and waste after use
Cushelle products are designed for everyday hygiene use. As part of Essity, we consider different stages of the product lifecycle, including the use phase and disposal after use. Waste management after use depends on local waste systems and is not controlled by Cushelle. However, certain product characteristics (such as material composition or product format) can influence how products are used and disposed of.
Essity has set targets to reduce emissions across its value chain, including raw materials, transportation, production waste and waste after use, by -35% by 2030. These targets relate to Essity’s overall operations and are monitored at company level.
We continue to innovate and explore alternative solutions that aim to reduce material use and packaging waste and to contribute to Essity’s group-level carbon emission reduction targets.

Product design and material use
Product design can influence the amount of material used and waste generated during use. Cushelle works on optimising material usage in certain products, while maintaining product performance. In some formats, design features such as absence of a core may influence how products are used and the amount of material required per use.
Use and disposal of tissue products
The use and disposal of tissue products depend on local infrastructure and consumer practices.
For example, disposal routes (such as flushing, residual waste or composting) may vary by country and local waste management rules. Consumers should always follow local guidance from waste management authorities.
Product developments related to material efficiency
Some of our Cushelle product developments aim to reduce material usage or change material composition:
- Cushelle Seriously Clean Tubeless 6=9, Cushelle Seriously Clean Tubeless 12=18 and Cushelle Quilted Tubeless 6=9: With these products we have eliminated the cardboard core and compressed the roll, resulting in less packaging waste* (*compared to reference product with core). This helps save valuable resources while providing a better user experience. Additionally, our recyclable packaging* is now made from up to 75% recycled plastic (PCR).
